The Skilled Independent Visa

The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, a family member, or a state/territory government in Australia. It allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia indefinitely and access government-subsidized healthcare (Medicare) and other benefits.
To be eligible for the Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189), applicants must:
Have a suitable occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).
Meet the required points score on the Points Test, based on factors such as age, English language ability, education, and work experience.
Obtain a positive skill assessment in their nominated occupation.
Meet the English language requirements.
Be under the age of 45 at the time of invitation to apply.
The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) allows holders to work and live anywhere in Australia and bring their eligible family members with them. After holding the visa for at least three years, visa holders may be eligible to apply for Australian citizenship.
