The Partner Visa (Subclass 820 and 801) is a visa category for individuals who are married or in a de facto relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. The subclass 820 visa is a temporary visa, and the subclass 801 visa is a permanent visa.
To be eligible for the Partner Visa, an individual must:
Be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with their partner
Provide evidence of the relationship, such as joint bank statements, bills, and photographs
Meet health and character requirements
The subclass 820 visa allows the applicant to live in Australia with their partner while the permanent subclass 801 visa is being processed. The subclass 801 visa is granted two years after the grant of the subclass 820 visa, provided the relationship still exists.
The Partner Visa is a popular route for individuals from overseas to obtain permanent residency in Australia. It provides the opportunity to live and work in the country on a long-term basis, as well as access to government-funded services and benefits.
